Neither of us ever forgot our walk up the hill, or the sweet taste of the blackberries.

But that was many years ago and I knew there wouldn't be any vines in that area today because a bulldozer had dug them all up this year. With sadness, I had watched the big machine as it destroyed our favorite berry picking spot. Now, someone had built a new house on that corner. The people who lived there would never know about the blackberry patch, and they would never taste the delicious berries that once grew on their lawn.

I continued my walk and soon I saw my husband with Lucy on her leash. This was a big step forward for me because it was the first time I had climbed that hill since my knee-replacement surgeries three years earlier. Needless to say, our joy in my accomplishment was worth the effort.

The path of life is like that; sometimes the road is smooth and easy to travel. Some days are filled with difficulties and the way becomes more challenging. Just remember this: if we have a goal in mind, and are willing to endure, the reward will be sweet and the memory everlasting.
